Demonstrate how solar energy purifies water. Experiment:

1) Fill a large washtub with muddy water to a depth of 5 centimeters (2 inches).

2) Set it in a place where it will receive full sun all day.

3) Place a glass right side up in the middle of the tub. You may have to weigh it down by putting two clean rocks in it.

4) Cover the tub tightly with plastic.

5) Place a rock on the plastic cover over the center of the glass without letting the rock touch the glass.

6) Observe what happens. Sample response: drops of clean water were observed forming inside the plastic film & dripping into the glass. This procedure is used to make fresh water & could increase the world’s drinking supply. "Pollution Is A Dirty Word." Word search.

Play "The Nervous Game." Using the model on p. 10c of the Appendix, either duplicate the diagram on a tagboard or on the chalkboard. If tagboard is used, make up index cards with each of the terms given. Attach tape to the back of each card. Divide the class into teams. Using the relay race format, have students attach the index cards in the appropriate box. If the chalkboard is used, the students write the term in the appropriate box.   Appendix, p. 10d  
D. The Endocrine System
à Recognize the endocrine glands & how hormones control the body.
