| The
Technology Department is responsible for
servicing the audio, visual, networking
technology, telephony needs of the
district and the maintenance of the district
websites.
We have recently completed a high speed
network to include Verizon TLS (ethernet)
service between the buildings which will
complete our Voice over IP Network. The Roselle
Schools Internet runs on a 10mb pipe which will
allows for high speed streaming content and a
shared 100mb between the buildings. All
content is filtered through a Cymphonix box
which checks daily for inappropriate web
content, spyware, viruses and other threats
against the network and its users. The
Department remains committed in providing the
latest technology to our users. Our computers
run on a minimum of Pentium IV processors and
are connected either wired or wireless. Most all
computers run on Windows XP with the
Office 2003 Software Suite and will be upgraded
to Office 2007 in the summer of 2008. We maintain a
Microsoft Office Campus license that allows for
staff to obtain copies of Office 2003/2007 for their
home use. Our computer labs use Vision software
which projects a teacher's screen to all of the
users and also monitors all student work.
Through
the ACE+ Grant, many of the computer labs are
open after school for student use, view the ACE+
Grant Page for further information. Also,
through ACE, the staff and members of the
community can attend a variety of After School
Professional Development workshops that offer
hands on training from beginner to advanced
applications. See the link below to view the
offerings.
Through
Targeted At Risk Aid ( T.A.R.A.) funding
received during the 07-08 school year, the
district has procured 13, 24 bay wireless laptop
carts from Earthwalk Communications which will
allow more student to computer time with Math
and Language Arts. The students use the online
program Study Island both during the day and
after school to build upon their skills based on
their individual strengths and weaknesses.
T.A.R.A. funds have further allowed for the
hiring of district coaches, after school T.A.R.A.
curriculum updates and mapping and the
completion of a wireless network at ACHS.
In
addition to the responsibilities listed above,
the Department of Technology is also responsible
for the maintenance of the Genesis Student
Information System (NJSmart, school report
cards, interims, schedules, district and state
reports) and the data connections between our
special education program and the automated
cafeteria systems. The Office is
responsible for the district's E-Rate funding
which is a calculated discount based on the free
and reduced lunch population. The 07-08 rate is
calculated at 73%.
The
Technology Staff typically receives help
requests via an online service request form and
typically can respond to any issues with 24
hours. Our Building Technology Integration
Mentors are building based, and can provide
assistance in infusing technology into lessons
and providing help to new users and staff in
terms of logging in to the network, checking
email and disseminating new information received
from the Technology Department. |
