Classroom Activities
March is National Nutrition Month and students are encouraged to take another look at Wellness activities as they relate to diet and exercise. The class work is focused on the nuts and bolts of the nutrients and how they are generally used by the human body. Additionally, students are introduced to supplements like vitamins, minerals, herbs, and antioxidents. They should be asking parents a lot of questions about their family history and observing what everyone is eating. Please be patient as the students test the limits of their new knowledge.
In the lab, students are developing cake baking skills. Pictured below are some of their creations. They will be baking cakes from scratch and will also prepare various types of frostings. The last activity will be to prepare bunny cakes which takes a lot of creativity. Here students will demonstrate their mastery of cake decorating techniques.
If you look at the pictures very closely you can see they are really having fun and developing skills.
In April the students will begin the final unit of study. That unit is International Foods. Students will learn about the life and cultures of various countries. In the lab students will prepare samples of world cuisine. During this time students are assigned a research project. We hope to publish some of the recipes which the students really enjoy!
